Sanjay has advised many of the world’s leading corporations on IP strategy, disputes, and transactions, particularly in sectors like energy management services and intermodal transportation. He has deep experience in all business and legal aspects of intellectual property, from developing IP strategy for senior management to executing that strategy, which includes patent portfolio development, deal development and negotiation, and monetization, especially in the context of emerging fields such as solar power generation.
Sanjay has served as chief patent counsel to Oracle Corporation and has been repeatedly recognized by Intellectual Asset Management Magazine as one of the world’s leading IP strategists. He has testified before a U.S. Congressional Subcommittee on hearings that led to the passage of §19 of The America Invents Act and is an Associate Professor of Law at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, where he teaches a class on Software Intellectual Property Law and Licensing.

William is an acknowledged thought leader in the renewable energy transformation, particularly in ensuring safety in renewable systems and energy management services. As an independent inventor, he holds 20 patents, including one that serves as the foundation for Intermodal Renewables. His extensive portfolio spans various sectors such as intermodal transportation, shipping, rail, trucking, hydrogen, battery, EV, charger, hydrogen dispenser, and safety. A second patent for solar power generation functions is set to issue in the second quarter of 2025. Currently, he has seven pending applications that will further expand Intermodal Renewables' global footprint. Before launching Intermodal Renewables, Mr. Lerner held over thirty roles at ISO for hydrogen technologies, served as an ISO US Delegate, and became an ANSI registered expert in the hydrogen space, with significant contributions in the maritime sector. Recently, he completed a comprehensive risk assessment and recommendations for the largest transportation agency in the USA, covering critical infrastructure such as ports, rail, bridges, tunnels, and airports.
